Scuba Diving Courses
Open water Course
The beginner scuba diving course is called Open Water Course and generally takes us 3 days. You will need to prepare some theory through the digital eLearning platform before starting the sessions in the water.
Several activities will be conducted from the shore in order to learn the necessary skills. These include proper handling and maintenance of equipment, breathing and moving underwater, and more!
Shore diving conditions are perfect for beginners due to shallow depths, calm currents, and ample areas to practice underwater skills without harming reefs. One major advantage of learning to dive directly in the ocean is that you will be surrounded by fish and coral from the very first moment you put your head underwater. Nothing like a swimming pool or lake…
Each underwater skill session includes a dive of approx. 45 minutes enjoyed at a coral reef nearby. We will practice skills, apply gained knowledge, and take advantage of becoming a diver by exploring the underwater world throughout the entire course. On the final day of your course, we take 2 boat dives to a max. depth of 60ft (18m) at our most beautiful reefs inside Cozumel’s world-famous marine national park. This is the maximum depth you get trained for as an Open Water Diver and there are very good chances of spotting sharks, turtles, rays, morays, and amazing corals with incredible shapes and formations. The day of boat diving has lunch on board included which consists of sandwiches, fruits, cookies, and free water all day.
After finishing the requirements in and outside the water, you will obtain the official Open Water certification, valid for life for scuba diving anywhere in the world.
The Open Water course requires 4 open water dives – but we at Benji Divers give you actually 5 open water dives throughout the course. Why is that? Because the course will prepare you perfectly for being a scuba diver, but is very limited in terms of teaching you about nature, corals, ocean creatures and the challenges they are facing. Because of that, every Open Water student at Benji Divers gets a free class and an extra free dive for focusing on understanding the nature surrounding us divers.
The price of 10.000 MXN includes everything: SSI eLearning, Scuba diving gear, tanks, 3 dives from shore and 2 dives from the boat, skill training on land and in water, lunch, and drinks on the day of boat diving, as well as your certification.
Advanced Diving courses
The Advanced Adventurer course represents a comprehensive introduction to five different disciplines within scuba diving.
Of those five so-called Adventures, two are already set: Underwater navigation (using natural references and tools like an underwater compass) and Deep Diving up to 100ft (30m). You choose three additional adventures depending on your specific interests in different areas of scuba diving. Those could be for example Drift Diving, Wreck Diving, Night Diving, a Peak Performance Buoyancy workshop, Fish Identification or diving with Nitrox.
Each dive comes accompanied by its compact theory class pointing out specific considerations for this type of scuba diving. The course can be realized in either two or three days and includes three dives from shore and two dives from the boat. The price of 9.000 MXN includes all necessary scuba diving gear, 5 tanks, all in-water classes, entrée fee to marine national park, the official Advanced Open Water certification and lunch on the day of boat diving. The SSI eLearning is also included.
Diver Stress and Rescue Specialty
The Diver Stress and Rescue Specialty course consists of a digital eLearning portion, three dives from shore, and two dives from a boat. It aims at preparing you for emergency situations and for how to react accordingly in order to help yourself and others in your diving group in case of an accident.
The course usually lasts three days with a price of 9.000 MXN, including everything, except the eLearning materials.
Proof of having completed an Emergency First Response course has to be presented in order to successfully obtain the Rescue Diver course certification. You can either take this course at home before coming to Cozumel, or enroll in a class here on the island.
Emergency first response course
Several of the rescue scenarios we train in the Rescue Diver course directly link to providing medical first aid. It is therefore necessary to possess proper emergency first response skills. Respective certifications not older than 24 months are accepted.
If you do not have a certification like this, we can arrange a scuba diving specific Emergency First Response course focusing on diving related emergencies and emergency oxygen provision. The course is taught by an expert and complies with the highest standards for medical care.
Divemaster
To start the Divemaster course, it is necessary to successfully complete all prior courses and to show proof of at least 40 logged dives. Depending on the level of experience of the student, a minimum of 20 dives from shore and boat over at least a month of duration are realized. As a divemaster, you are supposed to guide groups of divers independently and take care of their safety. Because of this, the course includes a significant portion of accompanying and shadowing your instructor and gaining practice and experience as a future dive professional. Furthermore, several simulations and training scenarios will be practiced in order to assure that all required and necessary skills and techniques have been properly incorporated by the student. Those scenarios include for instance Search and Recovery, Creation of an underwater Map, Equipment Exchange, etc.
After successfully achieving all targets and completing theoretical and practical exams, the student will be certified as a Divemaster, enabling him/ her to professionally work as a scuba diving guide anywhere in the world. The course has typically a duration of one month at least and a price of 30.000, including everything except the Divemaster Crew Pack/ Divemaster eLearning.
